self-made: day four

I stare at this face as often I can.  Often wondering, what in the hell is he thinking?  Perhaps he thinks the same.

He's my favorite subject.

In my evolution of being "self-made," I was able to discover that the lens in which covered his eyes, and the lens in which covered mine created a crystal-clear connection.  As if he was staring into my soul, and I was staring into his.

self-made: day three

Interestingly enough, I experienced a face-off in my evolution as a wanna-be photographer. The real me, versus the reflection of me.  Are they the same person, or are they dramatically different?  Good question.   I have been trying to figure that out for 27 years.

self-made: day one

I have been practicing this whole self-portrait thing.  It's much harder than I thought.  Surprisingly, it's less about the mechanics of camera positioning, or angles, or lighting.  It's more about capturing myself... seeing myself on the other side of the lens.  It turns out that the way I see myself through the lens, and the output of the photograph are completely different.

So back to the basics I go.  What better way to find the true you through the lens, than to capture the true you through those of which embody you... rather me...

My mother, and my sister...

Now...

Let the games begin.

Shooting the Moon

Nope.  Not a mistake.  I didn't mean "shooting for the moon."  I meant shooting the moon.... literally.

Since my passion for photography evolved emotionally and financially from a Canon G-9 to a Nikon D-90, my challenge (among others) has been shooting a great shot of the moon.  I understand, that even for the most experienced photographer - shooting the moon isn't always easy... but t'is my personal challenge. I'll admit - this image isn't all that sexy, but it's my first decent attempt.  The first 50 tries revealed a not so appealing black abyss, with a missing moon. Reading the abnormally thick manual could quite possibly speed up my learning a great deal - but then I wouldn't have potentially easily curable issues to blog about... now would I?

Reflective

If I looked at my reflection - would I be happy with what I see?  I was happy with this reflection...
